there was a significant chasm between marlions best and worst last night.

The thing I dont get, is 4 out of the 5 times hes attended a centre bounce in his afl career,

he clears it.

80% clearance rate. its like Auction data for Wategoes beach.

just *smile* play him in the middle and watch him do that gliding, slow motion magic clearance *smile*, that makes everyone else look like befuddled cartoon characters rubbing their eyes

pretty much every Brownlow medalist for the last 30 years, gets centre clearances and bangs it on the boot. roosts it inside 50.

what am I missing?
Yeh, he has a knack for finding it in the middle. Did he clear it both times when rucking?

Agree that it's hard to understand why he doesn't attend more? If he doesn't clear it he will batter the opposition player that does?

His effort and work rate are amazing.

Also does plenty of head scratching mistakes though.

Need him in the guts, he's hard, and gets the ball moving the right way.

it has puzzled me for nearly 5 years now.

Marlion thrives on minimal think time.

it why he waltzes away with centre clearances at will,

and drops regulation chest marks.

I feel like he elicits a vast coaching blindspot for some reason.

Dear Adam,

love your work so far. can you please play marlion in the guts?

regards EZT

We played our best footy when he was rucking. Even though Nank played well dont know why Marlion came out of the ruck when we had momentum and he was involved in everything at centre bounces.

Like many others here I think on ball is his best position.

Marlion & Nank should both be in there together.
No ones just waltzing out with the pill with those 2 to contend with.

Spot on. He is all instinct. And they are honed. He doesn't fumble when he has no time, he's just got those sticky hands. Yet when he has time he drops sitters, fumbles, misses targets, takes on tacklers etc. Get him in the guts and let him play on instinct.

EDIT - He also thrives on contact. He loves it. Get him where the contact is at it's most brutal & critical.

How good was he in the guts.
It's the 2nd week in a row Yze has changed things.
Last week was Balta in the ruck but he was back to full forward at the start of the last qtr.
And yesterday Pickett was killing it in the middle, not only was he rucking but he was roving the taps. But Yze moved him back at the start of the last qtr.

I think he's better rucking than mid. Doesn't have to think structure defence offence just jump at ball then instinct kicks in

Just watching the last qtr again. Pickett caught holding the ball twice in first 10 minutes when he had plenty of time to get rid of it. We gotta move past him

We have to move on from these types. For all the good traits and abilities they let themselves down with silly little mistakes at key times.

I know that sounds like he's being under sold because boy oh boy does he have some great moments and does he have some great skills and abilities.
