Did what a 3 time premiership player should do against a WAFL team , however the faults aren’t getting better, imho his just hanging on until Clarke, Sonsie etc get a chance

Notion- Fans overestimate failure and underestimate success.

Is one success worth ten failure?

Seriously he couldve finished with 7.
But once again the first game struggled to convert basic shots at goal.
Maybe next week.

Maybe George looked better because he had actual pressure providers in MRJ and Stacky next to him?

He could focus on getting up the ground a bit more.

George is a deserving premiership legend - no argument.

But maybe looked better the other night because he was playing a hapless team that’s even worse than lolNorf.
Fair dinkum - you or I could have been in the 22 on Friday night and Richmond would still have won the match.

As others have said - George needs to play ”better” when games against strong teams are seriously on the line.

Is when that success is a flag or three.

Georgie is Georgie. He's not Dusty or Clench, Gazza x 2, Carey or any other super star you'd like to mention. Nor is he paid like them. Seems to play all over the shop n almost do lots of stuff nearly competently, yet he's played over a 100 games n been involved in winning 3 flags for us. Coaches obviously see something important n reliable about the way he plays his footy n contributes to the overall team, maybe some of us just aren't looking right.

I've seen enough this year. 3 effective disposals for the game. Now with MRJ playing well and Dusty back I'd like to see Castagna replaced by Stack.

Yep. Might be doing the whatevers to help our forwards but at times I can't see it. Should be imposing himself into the game more but seems to fade out too much.

Thought he might have been playing a negating role on Daicos Junior. I thought he and Howe were really quiet for the pies

In the AFL website you can set up your own mystats filters so I thought I must be missing something about Castagna which the MC see. So I scrolled through some defensive markers.

Tackles equal last with Soldo and Edwards with 1.

Pressure acts 17th of 22 with 9.

Defensive half pressure acts - only player to record zero. Lynch 1. Dusty Shed and MJ 2, Riewoldt 5.

And then of course kicking efficiency last with 20% and effective disposals last with 3.

Next week's changes are Flossy and Dion in. Mansell out for Flossy is easy. I'd suggest Castagna's luck has run out. As I see it Shed and Pickett are the only other two possibilities on form. Interesting week for Dimma.

What you and many others don’t understand is that Castagna runs to fill space. He and KMac are specialists at it. Pickett now also.

This kind of defensive running closes off space so the oppo can’t make dangerous leads and the oppo ball carrier won’t be tempted by the fat side.

This isn’t carried by any stat I know except total metres covered by the individual player, which doesn’t tell the whole story.

George runs all day and is fast. He plays a specific defensive role and Dimma is loathe to drop him as we know.

I’m not saying George is untouchable at the minute but folks have gotta understand that stats don’t account for everything.

Footballers need to find the ball at some stage. And when they get it, kick like an afl player not an Auskick kid.
Honestly Carts, your defence of George is becoming his performance.
Stats mightn’t always account for everything but they sure give some idea who does what, where and how.
Not just the usual “runs all day and is fast”. I’d prefer someone who can run most of the day, is quick and can find and use the ball to the team‘s advantage. I know that premise seems a bit odd. ;)
