Chol does well in general play but struggles against quality ruckmen in ruck contests.

Soldo competes well in the ruck contests even against quality opponents but doesn't have the same level of involvement as Chol in general play.

Horses for courses, against teams with quality ruckmen play Nanks and Soldo.

Against teams with average ruck divisions play Nanks and Chol.

Good conversation this.
Assuming he's fit and ready to go - I'm for Nank to come back - and Chol.
But we are fortunate to have reasonable options now should they be needed.

Soldo first ruck with nank relief ruck swinging fwd and back as needed. Chol has impressed but just think he'll struggle with the pressure in finals. Feel nank would add more value around the ground especially if he doesn't have to carry the ruck load. Soldo is a big balkan who can crash and bash all day.

Nankervis & Chol at this stage. Soldo is too similar to Nank.

If Chol can't justify his place, Nankervis & Balta or Nankervis on his own.

NB Soldo was terrific the other night in limiting Grundy's influence. That's all you ask of him.

Good thread 4bins.

I like Marbs' mobility and his class over little Ivan.

I think Nank comes back in as he is a better round the ground player than both Marbs and Ivan.

Ivan would have to feel a bit unlucky though, but he doesn't have the ability of Nank.

Would like to see both Marbs and Ivan racking up more around the ground disposals.

Nank. Not a big as Soldo. Not as athletic as Chlol. But a better footballer than both put together. Chank.

Nank or Soldo with Chol.

Nank or Soldo do the bulk of rucking, particularly against the big rucks and Chol plays the mobile swing man around the ground and relief ruck

Choldo

I worry about how much work Nank has missed through injury.
Also think that the Soldo/Chol combination has been a good one with the specialist tap ruck & the athletic tall.
Nankervis is an excellent player but was caught short against Grundy last year in the finals.

It's a tough call though I'll admit.

Geez you ask a difficult question.

I can't make up my mind. Nank is not a huge ruck, but he can compete and he is great around the ground. Soldo can compete slightly better at ruck contests, is offering a little more around the ground than he used to, but clearly less than Nank. Chol is not so competitive in the ruck but serviceable as a relief ruck and great around the ground.

Looking at all of that I suppose I would go for Nank and Chol but we would miss Soldo now with his improvement.

Players like Grundy are freaks, he is 202cm (6'8") and yet he can run and is mobile. Amazing. Not much taller than Nank or Chol, maybe 3cm or 1 and a quarter inches, and you can't just let a weapon like that free to do what he likes. Soldo was very good against Grundy and he makes a very good case to stay in the side.

The big balkan nullified Lycett and Grundy in consecutive weeks. The MC would have noticed.

How very true, makes this so hard. I'm stunned we are having a hard time trying to work out which 2 rucks to play, a good problem to have.

Great discussion.
All 3 have different strengths.
Soldo Centre bounce
Simon Phoenix Agile, covers ground.
Nank Grunt, tackles to hurt.
I think it has to vary depending on which combination they are up against.
eg you won't need all 3 when the other side has 1 main ruck.
I suppose we have 4 weeks to tinker.

It's tough

I voted Nank and Chol - Tobior

One thing is for sure though. Would be good to see both combos in action v Melb and Carlton over the next couple of weeks and choose from there

Soldo has been fantastic but Nankervis is a damn good player. Damn good. Premiership ruckman. Our players would walk taller with Nank in the side. His physical presence is better than almost any ruckman in the Comp. In saying that, I can’t remember ever being so dominant out of the centre square with Nankervis as we have since Soldo has been in there. Seems to get the ball into good spots. It could well come down to the opposition we are playing. Nankervis has missed a lot of football. Tough call.

I’ve been sceptical about Chol and this next four games will decide where he is at. However, I do believe he gives us something different. His flexibility might be crucial in a final. His ability to mark and goal means teams will have to put time into him when forward. Not many teams have a third tall defender capable of taking someone of Chols size. This also takes away a third man up scenario against Lynch and Jack and that alone is worth playing him.

I think for me if it came to a final I’d be going Nankervis and Chol.
