The preference would be with us, but with Balta's emergence the structure would be interesting. Would probably force Broad up the field to a wing. In many ways, it's more important that Astbury stays fit and in the team for the next few years while this group remains together and in the premiership window.

Bottom line is Rance is a generational defender and don't want to see him at another club if he does make a comeback. With Astbury, Grimes, Balta, Baker, Houli, Broad and Short, that's an unbelievable defensive unit.

Can we smuggle him up into our hub in time to select him to play this next game? We could really use him to take Kennedy so Balts can mind Darling, Grimesy for Allen.
Don't worry about how. It's easy - just get him on the Simonds' yacht or in one of Rodney Fox's trucks. Offer them free finals tickets as payback.

Would Collingwood rather have Lynden Dunn or Alex Rance?

No question they'd want Rance. If he resumes playing but not for Richmond, I'd want our club to explain why - is it money, is it a clash with the coach or players - be honest. Transparency has to be the go with the club from hereon. If Rance goes to Collingwood (or anywhere else for that matter) for cash or any other nefarious reason, that speaks more about him than our club. As with his decision to retire - so be it.

As Balta shows (and who knows how good a player he'll turn out to be), there'll always be other players coming through even when the champions move on. One issue we have at the moment is a lot of talented youngsters just not getting a game as our stars keep performing. It's actually a good thing to see Ellis and Butler doing so well as it shows what we still have at Punt Rd. It'd be great in 4-5 years time after Dusty, Cotch etc have retired to be celebrating how Bolton, Dow, Collier-Dawkins etc have turned into the current day stars.

i understand he still loves richmond to death. Caro would have good info i'd suggest. his circumstances will have changed. wouldn't surprise me if open to coaching if not playing

I did not watch the show.. Did she base that on anything solid? Was the comeback in yellow and black and was it for 2020? Hes leaving it late for a run this season ... how fit is he? He’s still on the list and he took a big pay from memory.

I love the bloke for what he achieved, but I won’t lose any sleep over whether he plays for Richmond again, plays elsewhere or doesn’t play at all.

However if he chooses to play elsewhere, I’d hope we get an explanation as to his decision not to come back to Richmond.
