So he disqualified himself as a journalist at the same time? Due to no objectivity - the hallmark of a good one. But he'd probably claim to be one.

Journalists have opinions. Some football journos even support football teams and still do their jobs well. Tim Lane always did a good job as commentator/journo - I never knew he supported Carlton.

Wha gets me is the word deserving coming up all the time. What qualifies a player or team as deserving of a flag? Why does Dangerfield deserve a flag? He’s a good player, he won a Brownlow, he didn’t get it because he deserved it, he won it because in the eyes of the umpires he was the best player that year. No one deserves a flag, they earn them.

I would have thought anyone who listened to or read his opinions well knew, as I did, that he is rusted-on Cartoon - someone like KB for us. Of course they have their opinions, but if you want to present as a quality journalist in the public sphere, and remain relevant, I think you must get beyond such petty bias. I would say even KB managed that to a greater extent than TL, because apart from when he was obviously bluffing with ridiculous pronouncements, KB showed willingness to criticise RFC personnel such as going OTT on Dusty and chopstickgate. Proven very wrong however. Caro is quite similar as I have already posted re her; pays out on RFC when she thinks justified (and I usually disagree with her too).

Lane still grinding an axe from the 70s is simply absurd. It's 2020. Get over yourself. He's not doing his job well if the past heavily prejudices his current opinions.

I remember him quitting channel 9 as he refused to commentate alongside Eddie on Collingwood games - he saw that as a clear conflict of interest and was prepared to sacrifice a paid gig to stand by his principles.

Not many would do that. He's a principled guy.

He later sacrificed many of his principles for a paid gig at 3AW. And if he didn't pull the pin at 9, Dennis wouldn't have got the job. Lane is ok but he has a well known bias for all things Carlton, and Tasmania. I

SEN this morning.

Hodge telling Whateley how he wants to see The Little mercenary win it, and how Dangerfield deserves a flag for all he's done for footy.

No problems, everyone is entitled to their opinion...... but this clown is one of the commentators for the GF!!!

Any chance EVER of getting impartial, unbiased commentary so people can enjoy the game. You know, like, every other single sport in the world!!!????

What a load of crap. I hope someone spikes the fat pricks Lite n Easy and he can't make it to the Gabba.

That's the bit that kills me, Ablett had the opportunity to stay and play in the 2011 flag. But he chased the money and he left.
It wasn't as if he was on crap money at Geelong.
Why all the love...
Baker will slap him.
Houli will run off him.
And Grimes will smash him.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how is taking a paid job sacrificing principles? We all need a salary to live.

He had a paid job previously but quit it due to principles and then took another paid job but his principles were gone.

Must admit I finally ventured to listen to SEN this afternoon. Was driving between jobs and low and behold Francis Bourke was on. Loved it.
Then turned on the radio again after 5pm as I was heading home and Liam Baker was on !
Couldnt believe it. Only listened for short burst and got 2 out of 2 Tiger interviews hahahaha. Miracle !

He quit because he refused to call with Fat Ed, not because he was being paid a salary.

Yeah, Tim Lane has always been Carlton. I didn't think he hid it and never minded him on the ABC, Have never really listened to the other stations, ads on the radio just sound wrong to me.

As for deserving: Bob Skilton played one final, and they lost. Danger can go jump, he has had plenty of chances.

Not sure if anyone else listens to the Junktime podcast but they backed the Ablett story, saying that they were fully behind a guy who left to raid the coffers of Gold Coast and then returned to become the best elbowing sniper in the game.

David king is up to his 154th version 'How to stop Dusty"
He actually thinks if you stop Dusty and its all over.
He mentioned that Ablett deserved a good finish and Danger has set himself for this game.
What an absolute flog jocks
