Trent Cotchin (Merged)

Do worry that the eye of the Tiger isn't there atm from a guy who's built his career leading from the front.
Dare I say it I saw Cotch seemingly coasting a bit from contest to contest tonight.:peepwall

The game takes no prisoners. The Chimp has got to lift soon or a glittering career will come to an end pretty quickly.

I reckon he's carrying something. In the Port game (I think) he had the highest amount of contest possessions on the field. Wouldn't be surprised given where we are at he is trying to play through this hard patch to help lead the team.

It's not working. But I think he's got this season left in him, and then he's done - unless he wants to play as a shadow of himself.

Footy looks like not his priority.
He was playing in a game last night and all his posts from yesterday were of him out and about.
He played like he was tired.

Less than 70‰ game time last 2 games. He can't go with his opponent for longer periods which is really hurting us. Has never been quick or exceptionally strong man on man and doesnt leap so forward looks out ro me. Not sure where he goes from here.. At 31yo many players have had their time. No shame.

Stick him at half back. Use his football smarts. Re-invent him. It worked for Matthew Boyd and Cotchin is twice the footballer Boyd was.

He’s not quick, a great field kick & not a great shot for goal. Cotch’s signature strengths are leadership in the middle, contested ball & clearance. Thats driven our success. That’s where he needs to play.
Can he stil muster it at 31 with ongoing hamstring issues? Is the hunger stil there? That’s the concern.
He’s been a great champion & It would be stupid to write him off but I think unless he’s 100% fit we may have to rest him & bring through a younger midfielder until he gets his body right.

The ongoing health concerns of our blue chip inside mids in Cotchin & Prestia are a genuine cause for concern atm. They’re beat up..

Dow, Ross, RCD, MartYn even MJ are going to get some midfield opportunities this year , we should get a very real idea at how good the next core are , could turn out great for the future and possibly have us refreshed and rolling into September this year.

The Skips body must feel like a 47 year old I’d say, I’m not writing the champ of yet, however I think this will be his final year

I agree Cotch looks slow. But when our forward line allows intercept marks and easy movement back out then all our mids are under pressure chasing tail and this leads to enormous pressure on our backs. I think we are currently a swiss watch with dys-functional parts and most of our dys-function revolves around our forward line.

Dimma not keen on RCD and Dow, Ross and Martyn have underwhelmed. 2021 draft going to be critical.

I’m not sold on our young mids in the VFL. And we certainly have nothing coming through at all in terms of KPF’s. (And CCJ is not one either. He’s a ruckman. He’s waaaay too slow to play as a KPF.)

Our depth looks a lot weaker than it was a couple of years ago. Somewhat understandable.

I’m not averse to going all in at the 2021 Draft and not trading away for mature players from other clubs. Not trading for RFA’s or anything.

I reckon he likes Dow, no doubt on the draft though , I really really want us to get another gun mid while the windows open , those kids could all be good , however I still don’t think they’ll be as good as our current mids, again if we can allow Dusty to play more forward that fixes a lot. In saying that I think Dow an MartYn have a little something special , Ross foot soldier and RCD well I’m not sure , was wrapt in him last week , then thought he was poor yesterday, they all have time however it’s no Martin, Cotchin, Prestia , Edwards midfield , close to irreplaceable those 4

I fear our great skipper is nearing the end. Looks a little slow and can’t kick over a jam tin.
I wonder if he should be tried at half back? He has good defensive traits.

Yeah, the end is coming. I’d say he’ll definitely hand over the captaincy end of year, and play on in 2022 to ensure a smooth handover then call it time.

12 disposlas is damn average.
If he is injured he needs to be rested.
Doing the team no good leaving him in

Saw him lined up in F5o at centre bounces in third q. Maybe part time forward now. Can't see him HBF. hasnt go speed to get from one contest to next with any quarantee now. Superstar that is fading but as long as we adjust expectations and role can still be very valuable. Leadership does not need to drop off.

It's unbelievable watching Kennedy get 43 touches and mundy 35 and 3 goals and Cotchin looks like he is running in mud.
If he finishing up this year, it showed last night.
