Changes v Crows

We need a forward second ruck.

Leave Balta down back.

I would look at leaving Astbury out to be honest.

Astbury has been a champion of our club. But it’s clear he is surplus needs down back and the reason why we are reluctant to play a genuine second ruck.
But Hardwick needs to make the hard call now.

Adelaide have Walker and the young kid Riley. Grimes and Balta should easily take those two. Broad to Fogarty. No need for Astbury.

Makes sense dropping Dave for Chol/CCJ

I totally agree. what's happening against the better teams, if we lose it in the centre and our backs win it, by the time the ball goes into our forward, the opposition already have their centre line back and mids while we running it out. Hence, always two against one. We need to deliver it differently. I don't know the answer, however, I would try Tom and Jack presenting CHF & HFF and open forward line for Dusty and visa versa. Kicking it to them at HF line gives an opportunity for them to mark or our smalls to crumb rather than the ball entering in our forward line and coming straight ball on the rebounds with opposition players running in a group (hard to stop).

This could also help with our small forwards being caught too far up the ground to crumb packs deep forward. I suppose the risk is being able to defend territory if there is a turnover, but defending a turnover in the modern game is damned difficult and not often successful, with the scarecrow on the mark rule it has become more difficult.

Yeah the logic is sound here

Let's see him go to work, lots of space at the G , can do his thing

It would be interesting to see Dave in the VFL and how he compares to Miller and Biggy

Adelaide, Essendon and West Coast away.
Won’t happen unfortunately but to quote the coach, I won’t lie about it.

In (6) Bolton, Cameron-Jones, Chol, Dow, Prestia and Stack, (possibly Cotchin if fit, which seems a bit unlikely).
Out (7) Astbury, Houli, Martyn, Naish, Ross, and Pickett suspended,
and Riewoldt managed.

B Broad Balta Grimes (Vice Captain).
HB McIntosh Vlastuin Short
C Stack Bolton Castagna
HF Rioli Chol Prestia
F Cameron-Jones Lynch Aarts
R Nankervis Collier-Dawkins Martin (Captain).
I/C Baker Dow Graham and Ralphsmith.
Sub Riewoldt.

You’re right, Carter. Love DTLD, but he’s out of form and down on confidence at present. If a tall have to go to make way for the second ruck/forward option we really need it has to be Dave at present. His presence in the VFL will also help our developing tall defenders at that level, too.

Our defence as a unit, as a whole, has been down; no way I'd drop Dave for Chol or CCJ. Grimes is out of form, Vlas also, as is Dave. Astbury is a seasoned campaigner, experienced and disciplined, I don't trust Chol or CCJ to be able to play the role as well over four qtrs. We need to improve as a WHOLE, not single out a player when all are struggling, even Short and Bachar aren't at their best either.

Anything close to our best is needed this week, don't be fooled, the Crows can play very good footy, as they did v Melbourne yesterday; the Dees were certainly trying hard and didn't take them lightly. We aren't at our best either obviously, so I reckon we need to tone down the over-confidence/arrogance a little that I see too many of our supporters on these forums have lately. We need to have some humility and take the Tiger goggles off a little and look at the opposition properly, and not underrate every team we play as I see so many posters do on Tiger forums lately, this year especially.

I can understand we've won 3 of the last 4 and of course this naturally leads to being confident, but this is a new year, the AFL have changed the rules to try and make it harder for us, we obviously get reamed by the umps too. We just have to work hard, get wins in the next two weeks before the bye, then make our charge home for the finals. We still have four interstate fixtures to come, both Wce & Freo over there, Gws over there, and of course Gold Coast who we never seem to play down here. I think top 4 is very unlikely, if we can qualify for a home final we will still be a great chance for the three peat.

100% spot on if we're off against the crows will loose they can play.Great having those injured players coming back , but to think it's just going to happen and be alright is wrong alot of things we a not doing right and some players so out of form. Not sure about the talk resting players we need all available.

Dimma needs to rethink the teams plan I understand the injuries, but even before that we we're struggling.

Maybe CCJ Harry - I do not like the idea of Chol stinking up our jumper in the seniors again. He has not heart and seems to shirk it when the going gets tough,,,

Simple solution to that a extra tall in the side we a lacking height in the centre of the ground.
