GAME DAY Tiges V Eagles

I thought we played pretty well until the end. It was a must-win, the bye was beckoning, and we couldn't get it done.

We haven't fallen off the face of the earth but we're getting dragged down, partly by age, partly by Hocking's quicksand.

Dusty will be 30 when he plays again.
I thought we played pretty well also up until that great team goal capped off by Shai. That got me out of my seat with a cry of "champagne football". Couldn't believe we lost it from there, and I can't remember the last time we have lost it from such a position. I would have put my house on winning from there.

But we never give credit to a WA team who does it ten times a year.
Because it's offset by a home ground where a whopping umpire bias exists and contributes to an 81% home record for a team that hasn't been good enough to finish top four in two of three years at the venue.

If this mob were as good away from home as the 90's Eagles, they'd finish top every year and coast through to the GF.

Truth of the matter is that WC leaders stood up in the last term (Yeo, Barrass, Kennedy, Natanui, Hurn) and ours (Jack R, Cotch, Vlastuin) didn't.

Just watched the Castagna brain fade again in the last two minutes. He collects and he has on his right unmanned and on their own running forward Lambert, Mcintosh and even Chol 5 metres behind them. A simple handball and there is an easy shot at goal or even better handball to Lambert who hits Mcintosh about 30 out. He turns ON TO HIS LEFT and snaps for goal.

There are many other reasons we lost and we cant hang it all on Castagna but in both the Port game and this game in the last minutes he had a chance to win the game and his thought processes let him down. If he had shown composure in those two instances we'd be 8 points better off on the ladder. My son says he wouldn't get a game at any other club and I tend to agree. We could carry Jason when we were a 4 goal better side than anyone else but with the change in the rules decision making and disposal are key. How many seasoned senior footballers would have done what George did yesterday. Even Macca would have released the handball.

Just has to be moved on. We can no longer afford him.

Yeo was enormous in that last quarter.

That last centre bounce Dusty paid him zero respect. He'd carved us up and nobody stood near him knowing Natanui was dominating!!

We couldn't have done any more to lose that bloody game.

Not Jacks fault as three times in last ten minutes we popped it up for that flog Barrass as that is all he is good for. Free kicks down again 25 to 15. That last mark by Kennedy must have travelled about 10 metres.
And for about 1m of that the ball is skidding along the grass.

But we had it won 2 or 3 times and didn't land that one more punch.

Then gave it to them.

Its really boiling my pisss
As angry as I've been in years last night...still p!ssed big time. Missus also not talking to me still (some bonus I suppose).

My son has never said he hates any footballer ever...till last night (twice). I'm still torn as I loved his run and pressure but unfortunately that's not enough anymore.

Well here's centre bounce stats. Pretty much Natanui vs Chol except for a short Pickett stint. I am sorry but Chol was soundly beaten, in the first half by a 15 disposal game by Nat, and in the last quarter by a slaughter, 6 hitouts to advantage. Quite simply if Nanks plays, we win. He wouldn't have let Nat off so easily. If Chol could play just first 5 minutes of each quarter he'd be ok but he has no stamina, which at AFL ruck level means not good enough. Other things to take out of these stats:

* Our kickouts were hopeless. I say 1 out of the 8 gave us an advantage in the play to try and create an advantage, the rest just came straight back after chipping around endlessly. Opponents have this plan covered. Have to mix it up a bit.
* Caddy and Pickett mostly shared duties on the one wing and KMac on the other. I can't see them both hanging onto a spot. I think Caddy will be most likely on the chopping block if they pick one.
* Dusty unusually most centre bounces but we're just not getting bang for buck at the moment. Seems to be rushing his disposals and getting caught a lot more lately.
* Think we're a quality bonafide inside midfielder short. Because of this Prestia is a big loss.

The problem is Chol is no number one ruck never has and will never be we all know that so what did we expect honestly against Nantanui ?.To critical on him for me on here. Both our recognised rucks out injured.

As much as I’m gutted and still shaking my head.... in the cold, cold hard light of day... did I have this penciled in as a win prior... no I didn’t. Still a sh#t result though

So West Coast 5 frees to 1 in the forward 50. 18 to 10 in the middle. That:s a player worth of extra frees right there.

Run and pressure could still be enough but he isn't bringing it as much. He had 0 tackles last night. For a defensive small forward, that is disgraceful.

As I didn't get to watch the game, or follow it at all really... Can anyone enlighten me as to what went wrong? The only time I checked we were up by about four goals, and then...???

Did anyone else spot that incident with 3:40 to go in the 2nd qtr when Bolton was caught holding the ball then they tried to stir him up? He was on his back with the tackler on top of him so two WC players come along to scruff the hair of the tackler to say well done but the second WC player also gives Bolton a squeeze to the throat. So Bolts gets up and chases the guy to remonstrate. Where was the umpire looking? The free kick should have been reversed. Probably WA umpires?

Didn't notice that one but it happens multiple times every game. The umpires either miss these incidents, don't pay them or are instructed not to pay them. They need to get on top of what happens after a free is paid and the pack is dispersing. Reverse a few frees and it stops.

Montagna said something like “probably not 15 but they were never going to call it”

If they don't call what they see then they should be sacked - it really is that simple.

Definitely not a sour grapes thing for me MCR, however 2 weeks in a row that surface has played like a bush ground in the middle of winter

Agree, not up to scratch, they need to sort the surface there. We've seen problems at Docklands too and they need to work out how to get the ground right at these modern stadia.
