Friday night lights at the G , game day v the Saints

we didn't even get 15K

Shitty night and COVID aftertaste, but you'd think there would be enough people keen for footy's return to Melbourne to snap up a measly 25K tickets.

And now Hocking in his wisdom has killed the golden goose. As ye sow...

First two games of the round averaged 57 points per team (season 81.9). Given the scheduling, Hocking could see most of his hard-earned but questionable scoring gains eaten away this weekend.

The crowd was flat.

The number of people in attendance was pathetic, lower than the GWS game at Chernobyl. I have to say, it makes a mockery of Ticketek when I saw comments yesterday of people not being able to purchase 2 tickets to this game when the crowd limit was 25K and we didn't even get 15K. We have 103K members and this is the crowd. How many missed out because they thought tickets were all sold?
Is Ticketek to blame? Aren't tickets free for members? Members order their tickets for insurance but just don't turn up?

2 goals. Lowest score in 60 freakin years. There was simply nothing to cheer about.
The predominantly Tiger crowd of only 14k was eerily flat. The G had zero atmosphere.
Covid has had a big impact.
What we achieved last year to climb the mountain again under the craziest of circumstances was remarkable.
I'm not seeing that same desire this season.

I am lost for words after that performance.

We have lost the biggest thing we had over the rest of the competition- our connection.

It’s been seen in flashes all year and when we have had it we look a level above the rest. But we can’t get it with any consistency anymore.

I understand injuries play a role in that but last night lacked effort, spark, care….it lacked everything we put so much pride in.

Was this the over the cliff moment for this side?

I hope not.

We all have our opinions on why we lost so badly last night.
That was one of the worst games by the Tigers I can remember.
No idea what the problem is but we are not playing well at all this year.
Apart from the Doggies game we have been in struggle town every game.
For some reason we have abandoned our game style of previous years.
Can't just be the statue rule.
Other teams have adapted to that.
Blame Hocking, older players, lack of selection...whatever you like, but hope that the brains trust at Tigerland have some answers.
Guess Gold Coast are wetting themselves right now expecting to have an unexpected win.

At least, if GWS or Essendon win, and we drop to 9th we can say we've beaten 2 teams in the top 8 instead of 1. How's that for a silver lining?

We had more Norm Smith's out there than goals scored.

One thing that needs to be addressed is the kicking for goal. The score line could have easily been reversed. It’s been an issue all season. We get it in there often enough, but don’t finish off. Missing shots saps confidence. Kick those 2 early goals, we get our tails up and the Aints heads drop.

Very true. Saints are the biggest front runners in the league - we gave them a sniff and we were up against it from there.

Well that was Sh!t wasn't it.

I'm probably most disappointed giving up that much body heat sitting in that cold watching that putrid effort.

I'll struggle to pick a top 5 from todays game. Grimes probably BOG, with Vlastuin and Broad but I'm struggling after that.

I'm sure some of the games before I moved to Australia were worse, but that was the worst skilled game I've ever seen us play. Anytime we moved forward and looked like we may throw a punch, we butchered the ball again and again and again. By foot - yes, by hand - yes again.

It wasn't even as if you can say the opposition were great, the Saints were ok, but they kept giving it back to our backline over and over too, we were just so poor we couldn't punish them at all.

I'm not sure we take much from that game. Whilst we have been average in some games, that game was an aberration. I'm expecting a reaction next week.

Defense will be interesting next week, probably no Balta or Broad. Balta probably replaced with Miller, I don't think we have anyone to replace broad. Maybe we try Chol down back as an intercept defender, he was awful in the ruck today, Ryder destroyed him.
No Balta, no Broad, no Vlas, not sure astbury is ready. So it will have to be Miller, amd garthwaite (even Though he has been playing forward in VFL) I suspect Macintosh will go back and maybe Ralphsmith or CD in, or maybe even caddy on the wing. Don’t think we have ever been a highly skilled side and we are being constantly exposed in this area.

Where Garthwaite plays in the VFL will tell us a lot. Do they stick to the plan of rebranding as a fwd or do they revert to what he knows and bring him into the seniors

The mojo is gone , we have lost that burning desire to win ,

We had it more than anyone else did and now we don’t

I think it’s been underestimated the mental toll last years heroics had on the group, coupled with 2019’s injuries, two years of fighting adversity and triumphing has left the entire group mentally exhausted, and maybe they’ve hit a wall.
Then there are the new rules, which seem to have been invented to subvert our game and style.
Add to this the lack of development for our younger players last year due to no proper lower level comp, and that any new draftees didn’t play much last year, either for the same reason.
I see the aftermath of this season going two ways, falling off a cliff like the Hawks, or bouncing back like Geelong did after a disappointing 2018. I tend to think we’re well placed to do the latter.

Yes. Horrible. My favorite player along with Dusty and Shai. But the thing that most upset me was, to go with all the inept, hopeless footy we played tonight, Noah actually created the likelihood of this injury because he could not pick up a contested ball with two ample opportunities so the Aints player was allowed the chance to get him. Had a heap of time and space really.

Could not understand how he has became so fumbly lately when he was so sure-handed last couple of seasons! Kept running under the ball all night and dropping marks when he got hands to them.

Probably the yips imo , confidence looks low , there is no doubting his athletic ability

It’s spread through the team

One thing I've noticed with our defensive setup this year, is the amount of times the opposition forwards are all on their own when we turn the ball over. This has happened countless times but it must be by instruction for it to happen so often.
