Very few draftees ever make an immediate or huge impact in their first year or two. Kpf …mid…defender. Whatever. Think we all know that.
Don’t think “we” all think that.
That’s my point.
One thing “we” do know is that talls take longer.
And they’re our greater need

Agree. No problem going with the right key position player. Or a genuine quality mid or two. Tonight’s GF exemplified the need for a tough, contested ball winning midfield.

This draft is a midfielder's draft, I'm hoping we can snare a couple of gems. After what I saw tonight and during the season with both Dees and Dogs mids., paramount to rejuvenate our midfield. Oliver and Petracca set the scene. They also have very good ball users across the park.

I’m the we. I‘m not expecting three Sam Walsh impacts. Not sure I’ve ever said otherwise. But a first year player just played in a flag and we saw what Jack Graham did In 2017. They can come in and give energy, class and impact. Thats not unreasonable expectations.

If you go tall, it takes longer. And I've said that forever. It's smalls and mids that make an impact in the first year.

Then our attention should be getting Hobbs.

True.
But they’ll need to get in front of Dow, RCD, Ralphsmith, Ross and possibly a couple of others in Martyn and Cumberland.
They’d want to be good first year players.

As SA just mentioned, maybe Hobbs is the obvious choice

I’d be a bit disappointed if our first pick was not better than any of these. That’s an underwhelming group. The fact is our best mids are old; in footy terms. Bolton is our only young player that I am confident can be a top class mid. Maybe Graham. Hopefully some of the others can surprise us.

But yes we also need some good key position players. We have quite a few needs. It’s why I think our window is most likely closed. Regardless I am eternally grateful and ecstatic for the 3 flags this group has delivered.

If our top 10 pick is a mid and isn’t better than all of those we’ve failed miserably.

Get some hard body ball winning mids (not outriders) or a key position player or two.

I was taking into account that these boys will have had the advantage of 2-3 years development in a professional environment.
A first year player steamrolling over the top of them, especially in a COVID interrupted two years, would want to be good.
Not impossible but not likely.

We definitely have many needs and many picks.
But we’ll also have retirements next year which will release salary cap pressure.
I keep coming back to Taranto.
Sorry, I can’t help myself

Taranto is a fit for sure, there was a lot of talk of there being cap space this year to attract a big fish ( Josh Kelly was buzzing for a while by a few) that hasn’t eventuated to anything so it should roll over.

Josh Goater fits the bill and is likely to land around our 2nd "first-rounder". But wouldn't surprise if he is taken earlier.

Does he need to? Stephen Hill wasn't huge.

Was good, and still does very little for me. Just, meh.

JVR was sound down back without being spectacular then goes forward and jags the winner. Something about him.

Footballer.
in road to draft pod clarke noted him, he's got some mongrel about him.
