so how do you turn pick 7 into pick 2 again?

if you can pull off some kind of footy perpetual motion,

your taking Callahan over Johnson for all intents and purposes.

I wouldn't be outraged, but I wouldnt be doing cartwheels either.

I guess im trying to say, is im happy with the Suzi Quatro.

I think we have a near perfect hand for the context of the draft
we can the can!

Don't think anyone is disputing that but many don't agree with trading pick 15 to get him, that is too high a price.
My post was more aimed at those down playing how good he can be. He is ranked one of the top 5 players in this draft by just about every draft pundit going around.

I wouldn't be against getting Hobbs at #7 (9) but love to see his speed and tank numbers is he the next Worpel ?
Unfortunately they are kept under lock and key. I still to this date don’t know why the results are not released.

If you took Twoomeys power rankings as how the top 10 in the draft would end up it would be like this:

Pick 1 - Daicos (Coll)
Pick 2 - Horne-Smith (North)
Pick 3 - Darcy (Dogs)
Pick 4 - Callaghan (GWS)
Pick 5 - Hobbs (GC)
Pick 6 - Ward (Ade)
Pick 7 - Gibcus (Hawks)
Pick 8 - Rachelle (Freo)
Pick 9 - Andrew (Rich)
Pick 10 - Erasmus (Freo)

Using ESPN power rankings the top 10 would look like:

Pick 1 - Horne-Francis (North
Pick 2 - Daicos (Coll)
Pick 3 - Darcy (Dogs)
Pick 4 - Callaghan (GWS)
Pick 5 - Hobbs (GC)
Pick 6 - Erasmus (Ade)
Pick 7 - Roberts (Hawks)
Pick 8 - Johnson (Freo)
Pick 9 - Alleer (Rich)
Pick 10 - Andrew (Freo)

Using AFL Draft Central it looks like this:

Pick 1 - Horne-Francis (North)
Pick 2 - Daicos (Coll)
Pick 3 - Callaghan (GWS)
Pick 4 - Darcy (Dogs)
Pick 5 - Hobbs (GC)
Pick 6 - Gibcus (Ade)
Pick 7 - Andrew (Hawks)
Pick 8 - Ward (Freo)
Pick 9 - Erasmus (Rich)
Pick 10 - Wanganeen-Milera (Freo)

The above shows that it could be a raffle on how things go past pick 4. The top 4 choose themselves. Getting our hands on pick 2(4) from GWS is an absolute game changer.

If its true that Mac Andrew is now around the 80kg mark then I'm all in.
I was keen on him any how and the only knock I had with him was the light frame.
Get him and throw in the forward line.

You’d reckon that clubs would be able to access them. Otherwise what’s the point of doing the testing?
That said why isn’t it available to the public/members. Aren’t we members “investors” in our respective clubs?

not comparing the two, but Ronny Fifo makes Finn Callahan in traffic look like a headless chook.

well, I suppose I am comparing the two, even though they are largely incomparable.

two additional points for Clarkes consideration.

1. He is duel sided. prefers his right, but his left doesnt blot the 96%.

2. EzJ, whose powers of concentration are remarkable on football research found an agility time for RFJ = 6th nationally. EzJ has the ability to spot footballers and is uncompromising. He rarely uses hyperbole or is definitive , but hes pretty hyperbolic and definitive on RFJ. This is always a good sign. EZJ misses the odd boom (Daisy Thomas a notable one) but rarely, if ever, backs a bust.
From that glimpse of highlights, the kid plays the game like a prima ballerina, dances like everybody's watching. Surely he'd be capable of being taught to opt in a smidgeon of defensive work at times to complement his ball play. Bloke called Dusty goes alright without having a massive repertoire of defensive work in his play book.
Two years of covid crap tearing the arse out of junior development, five quality picks available to sort out a list future, why would you not take the punt n plonk a lazy pineapple on an outside roughie with huge potential in the last?

This kid sounds similar to hawk champ Rioli.

No Ward in the top 10 for ESPN/ Knightmare?
He's lost the plot.

This is my point. Why the secrecy? It should be for public viewing. The only thing I can think of is to avoid scrutiny of the player when drafted. They only release the top 10 of each category.

And this has been my point all along, inside mids can be found in the second round, the difference between Hobbs & McDonald not monumental.
Yeah Nah........the best inside mids are taken in the 1st Round - Oliver, Selwood, Wines, Cotch, Danger and more recently Brawshaw junior, Petracca, Serong.

We have 2nd round talent level inside mids already such as RCD, Ross and Martyn and they're role players at best.

Could we be trying to trade up for Andrew? We all assume it’s for Callaghan (the Dirty Harry jokes would make him worth while)

Is the difference between Callaghan & Johnson really that great? That's my only reservation with downgrading a first rounder next year. Potentially you could be throwing away a key position prospect.
Surely we aren't giving up a possible KPF next yr (Rd 1 pick) or any of our 3 picks inside 1st 2 rounds to trade up in this yrs draft. IMO that's too heavy a price to pay given Jack retires in 1-2 yrs. You'd want to be getting a generational player in this yrs Draft with our 1st pick to justify it. For mine it's too heavy a price to pay to do it. Keep our current 5 we'll still get decent players & if need be offload our last pick for a future if all the kids we rate are gone. I personally can't justify it given even if we traded the farm for pick 2 we are still only getting the 4th best kid in the Draft.

Perhaps we can hedge our risk of trading our 2022 first if we expect Short to be given offers that would provide band 1 compo? Prob unlikely but band 2 could get us an end of first round pick.
The very last thing you do is rely on the AFL compo system getting us decent picks for free agents leaving, we've been burnt here in the past. No 1 is paying Short a contract that'll get us any more than a 2nd round pick if we are lucky.

Zac Williams is getting paid $850k a year from Carlton

Same age nearly identical numbers but Short has way better DE%

Not to mention Adam Saad $650k and Carlton had to cough up pick #8
This is why Carlton have been a rabble for yrs, they paid Williams that amount thinking he was an inside mid, turns out he's a flanker after all so they go & fork out for another inside mid in Cerra & he has a lower contested possession rate this yr than Williams does....

Good on them, for 3 reasons.

1 - It increases the likelihood of Ward / Hobbs falling to us at 7(9)
2 - It takes out 1 of their 2nd rounders (and reckon they will be looking at similar players to us
3 - The Giants will be looking to trade that Pick 21 as I don't think they have list spots, and they also don't want it in this area as it risks how high a price they need to pay for Fahey (and diminishes the point of them trading to get 2 picks in the 50's (which should be enough to secure Fahey) - I'd trade Norths 1st next year for it, and then look to trade out 1 of our 26,27 or 28 for the Saints 2nd next year
Another reason we hold our picks. a potential bidding war for those top 5 picks would make the price of doing it even higher. Happy to let others lose their 2nd top pick to get it. IMO holding gives us better options & spreads the risk. Mids this yr talls next yr, we are looking at 8 picks combined in this & next yrs drafts, all inside the 1st 2 rounds of both Drafts. That is the perfect foundation to rebuild our side with youth already coming through while we should still be around the mark at the same time.
