Have the Aints decided yet or are they still honeymooning with Wossy?
They're waiting on the entire club to sign non disclosure agreements .... and for maximum impact a "Tom Browne-Tom Browne exclusive, you heard it here first" news flash at 6.01 on 7

Yep, everyone wants a premiership, just not sure they are the best metric of individual ability.
Lyon has a good H&A Win/Loss average of 57.89%. His Finals record for a "top echelon" coach is mediocre @ 47.50%.
Likely scenario: Ross gets them to the finals, but they don't win a flag.

Every coaches success is measured on win/loss but ultimately if they cant get their team a premiership they are shipped off. So there is no better metric than winning premierships.

When Ross Lyon was coaching they had a fair bit of star power he could rely on Riewoldt, Dal Santo , Harvey etc to get them across the line
Not as many stars in this team now , so I’m curious as to how he gets them to perform
Yep. Just like Pricky, it was a handover from the previous coach. Different story now.

Walters, Fyfe, Sandilands, Neale, Pavlich, Mundy, Pearce, Hill, Johnson, McPharlin, Ballantyne

Fyfe - 2 Brownlow’s, Neale future Brownlow winner, Pavlich CHF champion.

Plenty of star power for Lyon to work with there….……… now the sainters,

Reckon the Lyon myth is about to be exposed - bit like Malthouse I reckon.

Played golf with some mates yesterday. The St Kilda supporter is spewing about Ross Lyon, actually he is spewing more about the last 50 years or so than about Rossy per se, but Rossy too.

The two Essendon supporters are spewing about Brad Scott, they both want Hirdy back. The Bulldogs supporter was hoping the Saints would come take Beveridge away and the Geelong supporter is still acting like he cares about footy all of a sudden.

The Carlton supporter wanted to break into the conversation but thought better about it and kept Schtumm.

Strange days indeed!

I may go agin the flow here but I rate Ross highly. One of the hardest p-Icks to play game. He is a tough so and so. Anyone who at the age of 16 yells at David Parkin to eff off from his front porch because he doesn’t want to go there (fitzroy) is no softee. He did end up there, at the Roy boys and all the old Roy’s supporters loved him for his no nonsense play. He has had 2 playing lists that have respected him enormously. He is a good coach. Full stop.

Not quite the fair comparison Zippers....Ross decimated their list in his time. He was notorious for not developing kids and getting a bunch of mediocre defensively minded plods to play his style of game. I think it'd take 6 years alone if you were good at drafting and development, to get over that hurdle.

Interestingly Ben Rutten got fired in a most disgusting way, Brett Ratten got fired again in a hideous manner........the 3 potential coaching candidates B Ritten, B Retten and B Rotten have all withdrawn their applications, until they feel it's safe to put their names forward again.

Flags are hard to win alright.

It's an interesting discussion though, Lyon took his side to one of the best home and away seasons ever and lost the Grand Final to one of the best teams of the modern era. Also drew another Grand Final, lost the replay easily.

Luke Beveridge finished 7th and his team played a huge month and won the flag, made another Grand Final and got belted. Who is the better coach?
Yeh, look at the squads he got into GF's. And compare them to their opposition. He is cl;early a very good coach/man manager/tactician.

I'm a fan of Lyon's, but there are some big risks given his age, time out of game, rules changes etc

Beveridge is one of the luckiest schmucks going around. That flag was an incredible achievement. But he's an underwhelming presence.

Look at the teams below. Name a combined team. Start at the backline - how many dockers? Maybe McPharlin gets in the back 6. Fyfe gets in the side as does Sandilands, Pavlich, Walters, Hill? Neale?

Get serious YOT they simply don't compare yet Freo arguably should have won the game.
