Game Day - Tigers v Blues

*Martin 5 was good but could've been better if the match committee didn't screw him by selecting Mansell (2) who's direct opponent double team either Riewoldt (6) or Martin.

This is so true and pertinent.

Mansell seen, rightly, as no threat to actually score, so Carlton could just leave him alone and double team our other forwards. Waste of a position in the team.

If Cumberland was there instead they wouldn't have had the option to leave him alone as they know he can kick goals.

This put us at a disadvantage.

We clearly need some forward pressure to keep the ball in, and this remains a balancing act because we don't want to allow easy rebounds. But the way the game is being played at the moment the balance needs to shift a little more towards having attacking options than the Mansell selection showed.

Thought about last nite a fair bit on my morning walk to get a coffee.

We've had bugger all actual practice games facing an opposition. We looked super rusty with the ball. Kicking skills were horrific. So were there's.

It was a hot temperature and a highly pressured hot game. Heat on heat. Like some of you lot on the turps in summer. On heat in heat.

Let's wait and see what the other games look like and see if it is trend. I feel like we are going to get a lot of ugly games this round.

Holding all big-picture thoughts till Monday.

My watch is away next week against the Cows. Must be a solid enough win (20 - 30 points). Looking back last night, we were messy but you can see the foundation looking strong.

Precisely, TF

I was annoyed with the boys for a bit for being so idiotic but I can see the foundation is there.

Plus, as spook has noted in another thread, we have silk in the wings

We aren't clean at stoppages.
If can get our hands on the ball and the 1st disposal is clean we will score.
At the moment its a hard ball get, get the ball out to Graham or Flappers that usually just boot it down tha ground.
It has to change to quick handball. That's why losing Lambert is a massive loss.
He was that class outside player that would get that possession out from the contest, but his disposal was A1.
Hopper will be that bloke that wins the ball and gets it out to the Dow's, Sonsie's, Clarke's etc.
Sensible logic, in saying that we didnt see much of him last year.

7 talls instead of 8 with only 3 down back..
Hopefully that is the structure all year , we clearly look better that way both in the d50 and when we setup our wall

Sounds a bit silly but I reckon a fit Gibcus will improve our team in the second half of the season , think we need the defender who backs himself to take a grab

Mansell was pivotal in scoring the equalising goal.
He took a brilliant mark and then delivered a precision pass to Lynch, who signalled for the ball, in the sweet spot.
The fact that they had Saad on Mansell showed they knew he could be an outlier.
Full credit to Shorty It's Your Birthday, who passed to Mansell.
It is about building trust in each player and their ability.
Short was vindicated.

Short passed it to Baker. Baker passed to Mansell. Credit to Short for cutting back inside when he's usually gone long and wide. That'd be the last two minute drills paying off.

Didn't Hopper kick it to Lynch?
