Who will be our next Captain?

Of our established stars I would think Lynch, Vlas or Martin are the obvious choices to lift the team and inspire with words and actions.

Of the next generation you have short, Rioli and Taranto in that order

I reckon new coach means new captain and rules out Nank but who knows, Grimes is just hanging in their and even as a great player time has passed him by unfortunately.

Would like to have been a fly on the wall in our captain's exit interviews & our new coach's discussions. Both had very ordinary seasons..
Dylan has had back to back poor seasons since getting the gig.

Surprised he is going around again in24 tbh.

Another poor start to 2024 from Dylan I reckon could well see him pull the pin before the mid season draft.

If Dusty wants it I would be rapt, I thought he stepped out of his comfort zone for Jack and Trent and was speaking more on camera and winding the crowd up

I think Dusty capt for next 3 years
I’d settle for a full season of pre 2021 Dusty. No added pressure that comes from the media. He is born to play, not perform captain duties.
Couldn’t guarantee that he wouldn’t get upset and flip the bird at the cameras or go silent. etc. etc. He is clearly guarded at all times when interviewed.

He has his flaws and we don’t need to have him constantly reminded of them.

His genius is on the field.

As for three years, cool the jets and let’s see how it goes like we did with the great Richoman. One year at a time by mutual agreement.

PS. Jack and Cotch took big pay cuts at the end of their careers for the sake of the team.
Dusty may wish to do this in the interests of playing for longer. 350?
Regardless, it will be very interesting to see how he goes next year with Yze at the helm.
Hopefully it will be a new lease of life for him.

I am not sold on Dusty being Captain. Doesn't seem comfortable in front of the media. He trots out cliches and says not much when he is interviewed. Can be a leader and inspiration without having a "C" next to his name.
Not sure I know who's good behind the arena but Vlastuin, Baker, Lynch would be up there amongst the choices.

Lynchy for me would be the obvious one but there are a lot of question marks on how he will return and maybe the focus should be purely on that,

Taranto is the right age and in the prime of his career - he might be the man to lead this new era.

Early in his career at Punt Rd I thought Jack was the next Captain, his playing career has not progressed as much as his early promise showed.
He Captained SA at State Level in junior football and was successful.
His game in the 2017 GF was very good.
It is a gamble but maybe giving Jack the responsibility may lift his career to near the level that his early career showed.

The best player rarely makes a good captain. Dusty is a great player and the players will follow him on the park but in my opinion he hasn't the right personality or attitude to be able to represent the club by diplomatically fronting up to the press. For me, rather than going for any of the old guard I would go for Tim Taranto as he is the right age and seems to have the right personality for captaincy.

Isn't trotting out cliches and saying nothing the job description?

Tom still seems to be struggling with his damaged foot so I am not that confident he will play AFL again. I hope he does because we miss his dominance in the forwards.
I also go for Taranto

Cotchy was, how old when he was given the job? Our next leader has to come from a similar age group. But who?

Have Nank or Grimes actually stepped down?

When was the last time a captain was removed from the captaincy when not by their own choice?

Unless one of our current captains steps down I'd be very surprised if there were any changes. These two were voted in by the players weren't they?
