Welcome Noah Cumberland

Round 5, Fritsch 0 tackles 5 possessions, 3 possessions in junk time

2024 - 5 games 4 tackles, plenty of goals.

Measured by goals it seems not tackles.
He was in rolling AA team last week.
Different strokes for different folks

Who do you drop to make way for Cumberland?

For structural reasons, I'm not dropping Kosi. I know Lefau doesn't play classic tall, but he's physically big and should help keep a defender accountable.
We need some smalls to crumb and pressure. Not sure if Cumberland ticks both of those boxes, consistently.
To me, he'd take Dusty's spot in that medium role. Is he better than Dusty?
Where does he fit in a best 22?

I know the team is out but to reply to your points.

He doesn't have to take dustys role they can both co-exist and I'd have dusty more mid he does more damage there.

Cumbo for either Mansell or Lefau. Cumbo at 6ft tall plays taller than Lefau at 195 cms.. Cumbo always on the move, quick and would be a hard matchup. He has better running patterns than Lefau and is good on the lead.

Mansell has played 4 games for 3 goals. His one good game was against the Swans. Below are his 4 games and career ave.

So to kick a winning score we just need to bring in a guy who has kicked 2 goals from 2 VFL games this year, and who kicked has kicked 2 from his last 5 AFL games. I can't see how that could possibly fail.
And drop one off the small forwards that was instrumental in it victory over the Swans last week?

Well, let's just continue to play Mansell who's kicked 3 goals in 4 games. 1 good game vs. Swans should ensure another 4 senior games.

Cumbos 2 goals which should've been 3 as Archie May took the advantage and waltzed into open goal.. Cumbo would have been 7 meters out. Also had a few goal assists. Good game.

Against Sydney ressies copped a bad cookie so we can't fault his game for that.

Lefau has had 3 games, ave 5 disposals, 1 mark, 1 goal, and 1 tackle. Does anyone think Cumbo would do less than those numbers?

Time for Cumbo to get a run and see what he can produce, We know what he can produce from 2022 but can he do it again in 2024 lets give him that chance as others have received.

Mansell finally played a good game against the Swans and had a stinker against the Saints
Cumbo has never been given the chances Mansell has had to play AFL
Three coaches later and MC still not giving Cumbo a go
If Cumbo is so *smile* why did we offer him a contract?
Shouldve delisted him as he’s obviously a list clogger

Come on logic isnt welcome here.

How about Banks straight into the extended squad what the *smile* has he done in the ressies to be looked upon as a straight-up walk-up. Oh wait he hasn't played a game.

I think the issue is that Maurice, Lefau, and even Kosi last week (and others) are given game’s without performing well at VFL level. So the argument that Cumbo needs to perform at VFL level first doesn’t resonate. On the outside it doesn’t seem even. As others have suggested maybe something else is going on.

You can add Banks, and Mansell to that list who have gotten games not based on any reserves form. Purely gifted. Mansell had a good game V Swans but other than that he's been average.

i feel Caesar knows Cumberland very well; so I'll back in his thoughts. Cumberland may have had his papers stamped. I just hope he can work his footy out and at least become a good country footballer. But I'm not sure he will last long at a country club if his attitude isn't right. He may just move from club-to-club-to-club following the coin his AFL rep. will earn him. Ala Damien Cupido.

Forget comparing him to others. Ultimately he's just got to start playing well at VFL level. Does that & I've little doubt he'll get another shot.
Why I think it's interesting considering the amount of talk about Noah's tackling, how other teams prioritise their forward's output. I am in no way absolving Cumbo of anything

Yeah, the only explanation I can come up with is the club is trying to boost their value before Tassie enter the comp.

Seems to have been held to different standards but that must be body language, chase efforts etc.

Why else would he have copped criticism after Kicked 3 in first quarter ANZAC day finals like heat v Melbourne last year, could have had 4 when Dusty passed it to him in goal square but he Unselfishly let it go through for goal - had 7 possessions, 3 tackles, 3 goals and 15 pressure acts and quite a few criticised him for drifting out of the game.
I think VAn Rooyen got 3 late and was rightly praised.
It's why I find Fritsch so interesting and how they back him in when he has large quiet periods

Cumberland may need to string a few more better games in the upcoming weeks, then Morris can put his name forward. This is the sign everyone sees, if you play well over a period of time you will be promoted. Once in, then work your ass off son, you have the goods

Fritsch & Cumberland both have the ability to turn games. Melbn get it, hopefully we'll get it before Cumberland is banished from the club.

Bailey Fritsch has averaged over 2 goals per game for the last 4 years, and kicked 6 in a GF.
Cumberland averaged less a goal a game in 2023, and had 7 disposals in the 1 final he has played.
But yes Fritsch gets a game so Cumberlanfd should too.

I'm not comparing apples with apples by the way. Merely stating both (medium forwards) have the ability to turn a game. Cumberland has only played 27 games (Fritsch 132), he averages 1.5 goals a game. in 27 of the games he's either been a sub or subbed in 5 of those, blows any of the existing small/medium forwards in our current side out of the water.

Yeah, he kicked goals in 2022, and funnily enough wasnt dropped.
2023 was a different story.

I dont mind Cumberland, and hope he gets back in the team and kicks goals, but too me there is not great mystery around his spot in the team. When he plays well, he plays AFL, when he doesn't he doesn't

That certainly cant be said of his competition. Not so sure that's always been the case last year nor this year. We desperately need him to succeed (due to a dearth of goal kicking power), which is why I would prefer the club to give him more leniency over less impactful players.
