Coronavirus

On the security guard thing....I am more interested in why it didn't work in two hotels but 10 others seemed to be ok. What were the differences in procedures and controls, if any? The answers would be illuminating to me. Was there a single lapse or several?

Same with aged care and hospitals....why did only some care centres get cases? Why were some able to contain them? Why did it go completely off the rails in others? In private groups that were cutting corners across multiple sites why didn't every one of their centres have breakouts ie how did some get through without nurses and PPE?

Same with hospitals....would expect that all being state controlled, unlimited budgets and doctors in charge and well resourced nursing rosters that they should have been well buttressed...again some kept the virus out, others didn't.

Simply finding out who approved something doesn't answer these questions.
i believe private security is being used currently at hotels in Northern WA where cargo ships with known cases are docking.

The hotel in Port Hedland was being guarded by Navy personnel supported by private security. The ship has now sailed so there's no one left in quarantine in Port Hedland.
There were 2 ships late last week with confirmed cases - one now docked off Perth with the positive test person in hotel quarantine and the other in transit from Geraldton to Perth with the infected person isolating on board.

I think that is Howard Springs, which is currently being used. The suggestion is that the capacity could be increased.
I am currently at the Howard Springs facility - on the way to the GF. I can say that it is huge (capacity over 3000) and very well run.

Please google it and watch the YouTube videos.

There is private security being used all over the place. We are using police now in Victoria but when the airports open we don't have an endless supply of Police to be guarding hotels! Might be a good time to commit a crime if you are that way inclined

Apparently charter flights from the UK, India and one other location (forget which) over the next few months might drop repatriates here.

24 confirmed infected on the Al Messilah moored in Fremantle.
Probably everyone on the ship infected.

We have an endless supply of patience.

When you think of it private security is used to keep suicide bombers out of the MCG. And unauthorised takeaway food at Docklands. Versatile workforce.
Dan has done the right thing not allowing grand final parties. People would likely flout the numbers, be drinking, be indoors almost the whole time (it’s at night) and be drinking so social distancing would go out the window.
chance of Cup Day barbie?

Been revised, only 1 new case

EDIT: the other case is apparently a Victorian returning from o/s in quarantine.

Ok, just had to revise the numbers, one today not two, so it looks like this:

COVID19 7 day ave 20102020.jpg

All the averages now trending down again with very low numbers, if the numbers stay low we should see the 14 day average fall in a few days as there are 5 days over 10 which are still in that average but they will go by next week.

I'll include the last 14 days as this makes it more obvious:

DateNew Infections7 Day Trailing ave5 Day Centred ave14 Day Trailing ave
6 October 202059.299.2010.07
7 October 202098.5710.409.93

18 October 202044.437.71
19 October 202013.006.79

The 7 and 5 day averages are very low now, a pointer to where the 14 day average will go if the numbers continue as they have been for the last week.

Just under 12000 tests, positive test rate 0.01% same for the past week now.

This paints a pretty good picture of where we have come from. Our last 4 weeks have actually been pretty good and show what the lockdown has resulted in. They really show how far they have dropped off in the last week. If these numbers continue up until Sunday then I would be surprised if Dan doesn't open up more things as he mentioned last week.

I think he is just trying to get past grand final weekend before they ease things more
Probably scared of parties and large gatherings

Victoria may have no fresh virus infections for the first time in more than four months amid doubts about the lone case reported by health authorities on Tuesday.

Premier Daniel Andrews said the single mystery case was in someone who had previously tested positive for the virus and further testing was being done to see if it was still an active infection.

If confirmed as an old case, that would make Tuesday Victoria’s first day without new COVID infections since June 9.

Personally I hope they don't increase the home visitor numbers too quickly. That is the real risk to spikes in infection.

And I hope people are sensible if they do have visitors and try and keep the catch ups outdoors in the main.
