Coronavirus

Cases arent exploding in Vic anymore and are really starting to flatten. That is the point of the current restrictions.
2 weeks ago it was 188 positive cases. 1 week ago it was 444. Today it is 514. Not sure that is flattening. We are in a hard lockdown and it's getting worse. Vast majority of cases in northern and western suburbs as has been the case from day one in this outbreak. It's obvious many people in those areas don't give a *smile*; obviously still visiting family etc.

It might be time for people who live in areas with little transmission to be given more freedom. It's happening in regional Victoria; why not parts of Melbourne as well? Worth consideration anyway. It's clear the current methodology is not working.

Yes my suburb now showing the pain... a
Hairdresser, travel agent, wholesale butcher, fish and chip shop, doughnut shop...... gone for good.... all these rely on people being able to move... fools for not thinking of running an on line business when they started their working lives or a getting a work from home occupation.
Construction workers upset they cannot sit in tea room.... what hardship.

Are there numbers comparing cases needing serious hospitalisation (IC, Ventilators etc) during this outbreak compared to the 2020 outbreak? It would be interesting to see what the impact is this time around.

3 weeks they(Feds) were stating it too. come on Ant.
Also why it was said to get at 70% to 80% Vax rate as agreed at National cabinet. State premiers taking it further

You want certainty in a highly uncertain situation - you won't get it.

State premiers are skeptical about the modelling and fair enough. Seeing curves starting to flatten as vaccination rates slowly go up is a sign for optimism though.

Hope you are right but can't be sure. Cases still steadily rising.

I don't have the time to do the calculations, but if you did, you will find that the average percentage increases of cases from day to day is slowing down. The Reff number has also dropped for 5 consecutive days. Its too early to notice the difference on a chart… and it may even be too early to conclude that the curve is definitely flattening. but there are little signs that things are slowing down.

You could use COVID live to enter the data on a spreadsheet and compare them.

Huge jump in our vaccination numbers yesterday, upto 100k for I think the 1st time. Big difference was that the feds have finally come to the party and distributing through the GP network.

Yesterday was nearly 50k through the GP network alone, up from something in the 10-20k's that we were at previously.

we're still waiting on todays numbers through the federal network, but the state network did 44,000 more doses today. I don’t know for sure if this is a record because COVID live posts combined state and federal numbers. But I am hopeful we will pass 100,000 for the second day in a row (and for the 3rd time overall).

edit: 44,000 in the federal network means we did 87,003 vaccine doses. Grrrr.

I reckon the numbers would be considerably lower, if only because there hasnt been the same number of cases in aged care, and in general the ages of those infected is lower (I think.)

Could not sleep last night and it suddenly occurred to me....on national Election Day, all of Australia's population vote in 8 hours.
It previously was every single person before pre poll day voting was common.
Hmm...voting requires staff to line people up, take personal details, direct you where to go and where to put the ballot paper and then where to exit.
Now, covid requires a little more in the way of vaccine storage , preparation and administration, but ..... could we not have mass vaccination days on Saturday, once a month, and for maybe 25% of the population in a single day?..at the same locations we have mass voting for our dreadful politicians.
I am serious. Why not?
Why do we have to wait months for something that can be done and we already organise every three years, in a single day , on a few repeated Saturdays?
Just takes organising. Funny how elections are beautifully organised.

I like the idea of a mass day. Doing absolutely everyone at the same time though doesn’t make sense.

The Logistics aren’t quite as simple as voting. That’s crossing names off a list and filling out bits of paper. It’s a one off too, you are done and dusted.

We don’t have the supply to just pull off the shelf. Vaccines halve a shelf life and need to be stored in refrigerated storage.

This in itself causes a big issue if you plan for a mega day and anything goes wrong.

You then need another dose a month or so later so need that big surge lined up too.

They need trained professionals to deliver them.

All in all a rateable delivery makes sense to me - but with that said a focused blitz where you amp up all efforts would make sense too.

i am/will get the almighty jab in a few weeks.
Really, the cases arent they high.
They will be in a few weeks though.

What im angry about is the constant changing of *smile* rules.

Like i said, my wife (healthcare) got the jab a couple of months ago, 3 weeks later got the 2nd jab.
The day after, the gov says...you have to wait 6 weeks now between jabs as its safter.

Oh thanks a thucken lot the wife says.
Jabbed, but not with the 100% safest way.

A little bit going on behind the scenes.

Honestly, if this was China, the whole country would be done in one day as I outlined above.
20 million people..pftt.
Mind you...Sinovax is rubbish.

Are you saying the protest led directly to an explosion in cases..ie some of the protesters were carriers and so infected others who im turn took it back to their homes suburbs work places? Or was the protest the point at which a lot of the populace said who cares anymore?

Treason? Ramping up the the hysteria dial to 11.
Farcical hysteria. Not sure the BLM protests received the same criticism from the same posters.
both protests are inappropriate IMO. Both extremely selfish and risky.

It really is bizarre that Andrews only ever mentions the number of people vaccinated via State Hubs. I get its from a political angle, but it doesnt make it any less bizarre.
Pretty simple really. Dan is a massive egomaniac and control freak. He has no control over the GP vaccination program as it is a federal responsibility. Therefore there is no mileage for him in proclaiming the success of the program.

It can be the only explanation as to why he never mentions around half of the vaccinations that are administered on a daily basis. It really is bizarre though. You’d think he’d be ecstatic with as many vaccinations as possible no matter how they’re done.

That’s just not true.

If you look here Australia has one of the steepest increases globally which says relatively we are doing it pretty well (now we have vaccines). You need to compare the slopes of the vaccine rollout. China is slightly better I reckon.

I’m sure there are pockets of excellence that are even better but point to a country that has done what you suggest.

The advice changes based on what is observed to be effective elsewhere. It’s one reason why some of us have held off for as long as possible.
