English Premier League threads [Merged]

What did the special one do at half-time?. Bloody hell, Newcastle kick 2 early goals, hold a 2-0 lead at half-time and end up losing 3 goals in the last 20 minutes.

Switched to 3 at the back, with Pogba in the middle of defence. Quite a bold change by Jose and it paid off.

What's your thoughts currently Craig?

Leeds's form has tapered a little. An unexpected 1-2 loss to lowly Birmingham at home and a couple of draws away from home to Sheff Wednesday and lowly Millwall (although some wins among these too) means they've been bought back to the pack a bit (arguably should have had a win at Hillsborough against Sheff Wed, but just couldn't convert chances), but still on top on GD.

Middlesbrough still biting at their heels and were many people's pick to finish first before the season started. Aston Villa back down to mid table. But their Midlands rival, newly demoted West Brom now only a point from top spot and making a charge. Stoke has got themselves clear from the bottom for now, but still 2/3rds back.

So much more fascinating than the Premiership. Really hoping Leeds can do what Wolves did last season and kick away from the pack. But following Leeds has been eerily similar to following Richmond for many years. Always expecting them to implode at some point - maybe around Christmas.

Clubs like Leeds will be thereabouts as will Boro, the Baggies and both Sheffield sides.

Derby and Norwich might be thereabouts, and expect a climb from Swansea.

It will come down to the second transfer period and injuries for those who havnt put some distance on the pack by Jan.

The most intriguing part of this is that a couple of more recognised so called bigger clubs could be on the verge of returnig to the top flight.

Leeds, Wednesday, Sheffield United, or even Forrest all of whom have spent a long time in the lower reaches.

Stoke and Villa are going like busteds.

Yes my concern with Leeds is that it all starts to fall apart before the second transfer period. Their manager, Marcelo Bielsa was a huge signing in the off season. Very highly rated in Europe and South America. He's a high risk, high reward kind of prospect though. A master tactician if he has the money to purchase the players that can comprehend his vision of play. Given Leeds have had a history of overspending and putting themselves into financial trouble, the current administration is conscious of being financially responsible. It meant, to live within the club's means and get the players Bielsa wanted, they had to take a quality over quantity approach. This meant buying in some real quality, but selling a lot of depth and downsizing the overall squad. This in itself is high risk. It's a long season and as injuries start to bite it could be their undoing. The recent tapering in form coincided with a few injuries to key personnel.

Villa is an interesting case study in what can happen on demotion. Teams coming down have a huge budget advantage over other second tier clubs for their first year, due to the way the funding model from the League works. So they really need to win promotion in their first year down, otherwise keeping on spending at the same rate potentially puts them into significant financial difficulty. Apparently Villa last year (their first year down in the Championship) were spending more than half the Premier League sides in a desperate attempt to go straight back up. The gamble didn't pay off and now they look in strife.

Romans cheque Book has done more for Chelski than anyone.

If Dimma was coaching an opposition team in 5 years, would you boo him after ending our long premiership drought?

Big, very anticipated game at Elland Rd had top placed Leeds taking on an inform and rising Nottingham Forest. Leeds did all of the attacking while Forest just sat at the back. Forest scoring in the first half with one of their few attacking plays. 2nd half much of the same. Leeds got lucky though scoring from an apparent handball. In honesty though, most analysts saying Leeds probably deserved to win with all the chances they created, compared to Forest's negative football. So no one screaming too much over their stroke of luck.

However with Leed's draw, Sheff United go past to find themselves on top.

So great to have all of these historically big sides rising through the league to now challenge for the top flight. Some of these encounters now looking more Premier League than the Premier League in atmosphere.

Nothing 'apparent' about it. Shocking decision.

A lot of emotion around the Cardiff City vs Leicester City match - understandably

Opening goal scored by Leicester and the goal scorer's celebration involved removing his playing shirt to reveal a tribute shirt to their deceased owner. He received a yellow card for over celebration. I realise that cards are usually given for over celebration like that. But come on ref, did you have to be such a miserable twat. ::) Given the occasion and all.........

Great game for Aaron Mooy on the weekend after flying all the way back from his national duties on Tuesday. 2 goals away against Wolves, to move Huddersfield out of the relegation zone off his own boot. Perhaps Huddersfield may survive this season in the top flight. There are signs they are putting together some more solid consistency.

Anyone catch a glimpse of the Aston Villa Vs Nottingham Forest result or highlights? A 5-5 draw. Absolute thriller of a match.

Villa and Forest both travelling pretty well now. Villa had a pretty rubbish start to the season, but have warmed up over the past month.
