Richmond Ruck Stocks 2020 and Beyond

Bringing this over here so as not to derail the backline thread. Jack's OP was prescient in predicting Soldo's long recovery and that we would take a ruck in 2020 if we didn't rate CJ - which we correctly did not. (Everyone makes mistakes, the key is to recognise and rectify.)

So we jumped early on Samson at pick 40 in the 2020 ND. I think it will prove shrewd. He has more going for him than CJ, who we managed to flog off for half a Taranto. That's exceptional business.

Samson will require first team footy this year. I expect he will demand it.

Sampson should work out ok.
As long as he’s satisfied playing VFL for the next 4 yrs.
Recruiting 19 yr old ruckman is fraught with danger. You put yrs of development into them and someone comes along and plucks them from the tree when they’re ripe and juicy

Not so much a grammar correction as railing against Leysy's attempts to get that awful nickname happening (it's not happening, Bryan!).

Ryan will play at least a few games this year, that's my prediction.

I originally had high hopes for him but he looks very slow v most modern day rucks I think. Tank as well ? Maybe it’ll come.

Dunno. Jury is still out for me until I see a bit more with Sampilands/Sampson.

21 we were let down by not getting a backup ruck for Nank.
It would have also made Hopper cheaper as we couldve traded Soldo.
Anyway longterm wear notwithstanding we have 2 mature #1 rucks.

Ryan still off it. And untested.
Im watching Max Heath at Saints and Kailen Lane at Brissy (Streaks pick)

Sampson doubters need to check out his VFL form from last year. Was dominating games and ended the seasons as arguably our best player. Regularly getting 30+ hitouts when played predominantly in the ruck and would regularly kick multiple goals when played as a forward. All this in only his second season and there is still massive, massive scope for improvement.

Sampson is one to genuinely get excited about.

Maybe not round 1 but there is every chance he will be by round 14

Still a lot of growing b4 hes a true ruck.
He has time, its 2025 that we'd be seeing him as a #1 ruck.

So he did well in the reserves. He should.
Lets judge when he is playing against men his own size

Yeah I’m the same and have been for a while.

Miller has moved ahead in that second ruck role, he owns it. Samson‘s VFL stats are interesting.
