Trade Talk Radio 2023

Watched the Laura Kane interview with Cal Twomey. She reiterated the bidding and points system is in for a major overhaul, obviously gathering strength. Actually mentioned that an outcome may be a side needs to have and use a pick in the same round, the points rankings will be looked at, and the discount rate looked at.

Completely dodged the question on the North compo, not that CT grilled her in the least or pursued it in the least, didn't address the question of if it was excessive at all. Just said its aimed at helping sides at the bottom for a long period, and that it was North's decision to trade the future picks. The last bit is a straw man answer obviously, because that wasn't the question.

Lapdog 'journalism' at its best. Fancy calling yourself a journalist and not asking about her first decision in charge being to severely compromise the integrity of an already massively compromised draft to hand a huge free kick to the club she'd just left at the expense of every other club in the comp.

But why would he. Cal knows which side his gravy's buttered.

Yeah, weak as *smile*. The AFL has succeeded in controlling the footy media, and profiting of course, and we're all the worse off for it. Its sad and infuriating.. Not surprisingly, Kane is as vanilla, straight-bat company woman as you could possibly get. Thats not necessarily that bad per se, a company person is OK if its a good company, but when the company is as bad as the AFL, its hard to take.

Your last line says it all.

Cal is an AFL employee first and foremost.

These the only ppl they employ. Notice the new CEO is always an inhouse appointment? The whole "search far & wide" thing is a vain hope that we don't pick up on it. it's amazing that despite a "far & wide" search the best candidate just happens to already be working in the same office & just needs a change of desk.

Yep all those years of corporate inbreeding at AFLHQ has become extremely obvious. Got me a feeling they've got dueling banjo's playing as elevator music in that place.

Sounds familiar?
Work at the AFL, change rules and the game, then get hired at your club.
She was at North.
How can she be general manager of the AFL when North by many in the Media said they were run poorly and were a basket case?

Sounds like the right candidate and she’ll fit right in

my oath it needs reform , it’s laughable that teams that have the advantage of selecting prized academy pics regardless of where they finish on the ladder get a double advantage of a discounted pic , utter bs ,,,isnt it enough that they could be top 4 finish yet be plucking these top rated kids from anywhere ,,,about time it’s reformed and adding up umpteen r3s and 4s shouldn’t cut it either
