Trade Thread

Reckon we might still try and get involved in a pick swap with the Giants. Even if they trade Bonar for a 2nd (say the Bombers 31) they will still be short of points for Green if he is bid on at the mooted Pick 5.

I could see us swapping one of our 38,39,41 for their 2nd next year.
Would be good, but I’m not sure if GWS would be allowed to do this. Presuming they give next year’s first to Melbourne, are they allowed to trade out another future pick? I thought there were rules about this, but being GWS the AFL could easily change/overlook them. The good thing is that this year we can trade picks right up to the draft, so we can see how many list spots we have before deciding to trade out any picks.

They say next year's draft is going to be the most compromised draft in the history of the game so far.
David King started that so next year's draft is going to be a beauty.

Probably biased but despite dominating the league for 3 years, our players seem criminally under rated.

The claimed value of Hill and Daniher is doing my head in.

The best thing about this trade period, watching some silly picks for the likes of Kelly, Hill and probably Daniher happen, is that effectively we got Lynch for Conca.

I can appreciate the uproar a little bit more now. Makes me smile even more.

Agree JB

Add to that Papley for pick 9...WTF?

Check out this comparison between Papley and Butler for *smile* and giggles: https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy...2=15&type=A&pid1=4252&pid2=4090&fid1=C&fid2=C

Almost identical age, Papley a few extra disposals (perhaps slightly more midfield time) but everything else very similar. Yet Papley is pick 9 and Butler is a junk pick?

Is it just me, but until this trade period I assumed Brad Hill was just another ordinary Freemantle outside player.

Westralian reporting he will be getting $900k p.a. for five years. WTF is going on!
just because it’s reported doesn’t mean it’s happening.
they use terms like reportedly to cover up the fact it’s made up or is a guess.

they’re all aware this trade period is pretty dull and clicks are down

I don't understand why Butler is being let go for no real value, at a time pressure forwards are in vogue, as is speed. He is even a good kick!

pressure forwards aren't just in vogue, but they are very hard to find. there are clubs out there that don't have any of them

We have depth and we need to make room for the kids coming through. We were always going to have too many small forwards. With Castagna elevating himself to AA contention Butler makes way.

We can only get what people are prepared to pay. We are happy to see him move on and will help make it happen.

It's only because they, along with Papley, are all contracted to clubs that don't want to lose them. Their clubs are rightly making the saints, swans and blues pay overs if they want them.

Trade week reminds me of my school days where I'd procrastinate and start studying the night before the exam.

Papley is clearly a better player than Butler imo. 37 goals 20 goal assists this year. Knows how to mark a ball.

Looks like only Tiger trade will be Butler. Fremantle gone soft on Menadue and no interest in Kmac who's contracted anyway.

I'd fully intend to study the night before then say oh well it's too late now.

This.

In terms of long-term list management and team development, every player is either an asset or a liability.

Butler used to be an asset, but is now a liability.

Sounds harsh to say that about a young guy we all love, but there's little room for sentiment when it comes to the administrative side of the playing list.

Not so long ago, we were similarly ruthless with some of our assistant coaches. Firm but fair.

Clearly Dan is now viewed, not only as outside our best 22, but outside the next tier of backups for his role.

Anyone know when this bore finishes?
Officially 7.30pm today, but expect HUN, SEN, afl.com.au and any other 'pin the tail on the donkey' commentator to still be talking about who won and lost well into next week.

Not pick 9 compared to a 4th rounder better
