.........

In due course we may be presented with the facts.

Regardless............

RIP Danny.

PS (deep down I'm hoping this isn't suicide. He should be shamed not lauded if so! Simply NO EXCUSE to do this to his wife and family. None. "Black Dog" doesn't cut it. There are far more appropriate adjectives)

Sorry can’t agree with your last comment - why should he be ashamed.

Suicide is tragic, terrible but at no point does shame come into it.

Mental illness is complex and varied and it’s can hit anyone. Many people who consider or survives an attempt often say they attempted it because they believe they are a burden on their loved ones and believe their loved ones are better off without having to worry about them. From their perspective they are not taking the easy way out and they often can see [edit] - NO other alternative.

It is sad and I wish the family strength.

There is discussion about mental health but not really about suicide. I don't think it can be done in public without creating a framework whereby it can be seen as viable. Maybe it's a taboo topic for a reason.

Yes. There is research that suggests that the way a suicide is reported can trigger copy cats. Overly emotional reporting that refers to suicide rather than death is supposed to be very unhelpful. That show 100 reasons why has been criticised for the way it deals with suicide and potential negative social affects.

Depression is one nasty mother *smile*.

and it can be a fatal disease.

having to get out of bed or shower or wash your sheets can seem like an insurmountable challenge,

and big, real life problems can seem to leave you without choices.

The trick for sufferers and loved ones is to fixate on the fact that it passes.

so, yeah, if you suffer, you are temporarily under the covers with the devil.

and the *smile* is way harder to run away from than a Rioli

but as sure as the sun rises and tigers win the flag,

the *smile* will drop off eventually. Try strip things down and put one foot in front of the other, get a little sun on your face.

hang in there till tomorrow brothers and sisters, cause the *smile* could trip on his shoelaces tonight.

RIP Spud and love to your family.

He was on his way to a funeral of an old mate in Ballarat who committed suicide the week earlier. He did a country road detour and into a tree. RIP Mark Milne and Spud Frawley!

Not sure if its posted before. Danny's interview on Sacked coaches.
A good listen. He laughed on that chicken poo saga & even took some home. Even his thoughts being offered a job at the Saints at the end of the 2001. The spitting saga too.

I would love to meet up with that low life who spat at him. As I recall the media suggested he was a short term visitor from Qld?
Now and then what an arse.

Relax. That was a long time ago. I'm sure he regrets it. What relevance does that have anyway? Just because blobbo raised it on 360. What a *smile*

Oh! Anyway no issue of gender arising in our response to mental illness. I am sure we all see it in that same way.

I didn’t see the deleted post, so I’m not sure if this follows or not - but it should be said that it might not be helpful to assume that males and females deal with mental health in the same way.

Men and women have significantly different suicide rates, and women are generally superior than men at verbalising emotion, so it is probably going to save more lives if suicide prevention strategies do take into account that some men might benefit more from strategies that don’t place the onus on them to verbalise their emotions with the people around them.

Pherhaps I mislead you.
I didn’t say men and women deal with mental illness in the same way. Clearly they don’t. I said that gender is not an issue when we consider a response, meaning that we are all equally entitled. See#127

It's not a matter of agreeing with someone.....it's a matter of reality. You either appreciate the gift of life or you take the shameful, gutless way out. People who are depressed are just thinking about themselves and not considering others less fortunate. Suicide is a selfish result.

How are you travelling compared to these kids?

I don't know if Frawley committed suicide or not. But if he did, he's just another selfish prick that could not think of anyone else except himself.

ps. It's not a mental illness. I jest messaged 2 mates that claim they have depression. Told them I was thinking of them and i loved them. Both of them do not have mental illness. They both just focus inwardly on themselves and not outwardly on others less fortunate and from this do not appreciate what they have.

Unfortunately there's some truth to this. Humankind and life in general has always been about survival, and now that survival is assured along with all creature comforts, the intelligent mind is not quite sure what to do with itself.

I can recognise the hopefulness in your post.

Gratefulness can increase happiness and attenuate depression somewhat.

It’s possible to help people with depression by changing their thought patterns and what you’ve described is one way to help people.

But what if it doesn’t work or isn’t enough?

The average African child experiences more happiness and less pain than the average person with severe depression. They lack food and modern technology, but they’re smiling and playing like children everywhere else around the world (if healthy).

It’s also self-evident that the children in your photo are experiencing a better quality of life than the recent experiences of life by someone who has committed suicide.

It seems best to acknowledge the extreme inner turmoil people could be experiencing.

I'm guessing suicide isn't a 20th century invention.But happy to be corrected.

The problem with many of these strategies is they ask men to open up verbally about their feelings and have a cry.

Building comraderie through a new sport or something would save more lives IMO. Instead of asking men to open up, we should be asking them to join groups and go on a mission with other men somehow.
A lot has been said about talking etc but I think much more emphasis should be on getting professional help. I don't know what Lifelinesay if you call them but surely they would have to say Se your doctor first. If your doctor or the specialist they refer you to says you don't have a mental illness treatable with medication and other treatments then see a psychologist ir counsellor to deal with the underlying stressor...relationship, self worth, financial, etc.
to me theses things can't be solved over a beer with a mate.
