Welcome Josh Gibcus

We may have to play Gibbo in the forward line till Lynch comes back
Soldo Nank couldn’t provide a marking option up forward tonight

Coaches did him no favours playing him on Buddy. Pleased he got his first goal.

It wasn't just getting beaten by Buddy -- some of his kicks tonight were horrible.

Agree, but at least they're aggressive kicks to our advantage. I'd rather he die trying at his age than kick it down the line ala DTLD.

The last one was backwards to Baker and missed him by 10 metres. Baker then missed the handball to Rioli, who slipped over, Swans get an easy goal.

Those poor kIcks tonight were a bit unexpected given what he’s shown till now. But yeah he was at least taking the game on.

Going great but his kicking was of Auskick standard tonight.
Yeah our skill level especially in the backline was abysmal tonight. We butchered it and Josh was no expection. That's not the norm for him so let's hope he's back on track next game.

He only butchered 3 maybe 4 kicks, but when its to the opposition in the corridor at the SCG, its brutal. All part of the learning curve.

Interestingly, pre draft, one (about the only) knock on him was his kicking. In interviews, he actually nominated it as an area for improvement himself.

Is it his kicking or more so his decision making?

I think his kicking this year has generally been impressive; and he generally did very well tonight being expected to play on Buddy. However, IMO, really unfair of Dimma and coaches to expect a first year kid, no matter how promising, to be able to curb an all-time great player of vastly greater experience, a little height and probbaly at least 10kgs along with his freakish athleticism. Then he was thrown forward in a belated attempt to win the match. Got out on a good lead, marked and kicked truly. Overall did well in IMHO but may have just been a bit psyched out: playing on BF, one-eyed crowd, high-pressure opponent on a small ground. But most of all, our FL was basically a rebound wall. No-one that could take a grab, so could not find a forward target, explaining some of the nervy kicks back and sideways.

Tough on the kid. Sure we were missing Balta and Lynch, but there was no senior player that could take on Buddy (Tarrant, Grimes, Broad, Vlastuin?).
Sure, great experience for the kid ... but might have cost the game!

Looked like he had good football smarts up forward
Yep. Small sample size of one lead, mark and goal. But gee that was pure forward craft.

If we are going to turn one of the defenders into a forward then it has to be Gibcus.

Great experience for the kid. Playing on a legend with a raucous crowd and massive pressure.

I relate it to the game Balta played on Dixon against port the first time. Got beaten pretty badly but a great experience and towelled Dixon up in the prelim later that year.
