Spot on Leon. This incessant need for drafting flankers is infuriating. Draft *smile* mids FFS!!! They can play on the flank if need be. Flankers can't play in the midfield.

And draft *smile* key position players when your 2 main guys are in or close to their 30s!!
And we end up playing slow plodding prestia and graham as flankers anyway..neither knows when to lead or be a the fall of the ball when we bomb it and oppossition jusf spread and run the ball away crlm them...how many times did we see poor fridge lagging 10 feet behind ?

No one has mentioned, that I can see, how the Dons picked us apart by passing to a lone recipient then onto another and so on.
Don't know the stats, but it would have to be huge for uncontested possessions.
We seemed to be incapable of manning up man to man.

Exactly the same way Scott used to coach against us when at North. Chip it through our zones. Plus hit us on the slingshot out of D50 - exactly the way they scored the winning goal.

140 uncontested marks. Disgraceful

It was funny, Dimma said it was terrible to allow that. But it's not the first time we have lost this way. It's the way we lose, we cede control of the ball. Surely that is something players are aware of? And isn't the solution working harder, running with your opponent to prvent him offrering the easy short pass? And it starts when the oppostioin kicks in. They often had a short pass up the middle. Which then allowed them to work either side of the ground. That is surely an instruction from the coaches, to allow that initial short pass? And then it's a work rate issue?

Unbelievable that Dimnma could say he was frustrated. It's a consistent theme.

Dimma mentioned this in his presser, but seemed to absolve himself of any responsibility to fixing the problem throughout the game.

There is a massive disconnect between what Dimma is saying in his press conferences and the way we play. He says we need to get better. We need to improve our inside 50's and ball use. We need to get better at defending teams that chip there way through our defensive structures. And yet, nothing changes week on week. To watch us continue to bomb the ball into the forward 50 with nothing but blind hope tells me that this is how they're told to play. It doesn't make sense that we keep doing it week after week after week. Its like we rely on luck and hope that we can scrounge ugly goals. I personally find it infuriating that our coaches cannot come up with something better, particularly when we have no marking options up there that can take a contested grab.

The way we set up for kick ins is bizarre. It’s like we concede two kicks and then contest. Rinse and repeat.

It’s exactly how GC got us a few weeks ago. And you don’t think Scott saw how GC sliced through us and copied that blueprint.

It’s not just how badly and dumb we are playing (and whether or not the blame falls on the players or coaches - I suspect both), it’s what the opposition coaches see, and they see plenty.

It’s now a fact that a half decent coach can plan a win against the Tigers and do. Hardwick is not learning anything from our defeats even though his says to the contrary in his post-game predicable interviews!

Starting to see why Sheds jumped ship to the Crows recruitment team. Realised hes surrounded by spuds
Don’t rewrite history

Shedda went home to Adelaide post retirement where his family is. Plenty of players start an off field career at a different club to where they played, in fact most do.

This is so annoying to watch. It's like groundhog day and listening to Albert Einstein say "insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting different results".

Despair . . . frustration , , , that's what I feel after tonight's game.

When we play well, such as the first 3 quarters against Melbourne and the game against Geelong, we put enough pressure on that the opposition can't just chip the ball around, they have less time and space with every possession and eventually cough it up or at least we get a stoppage.

But then we play like tonight. We were unable to pressure Essendon when they were passing the ball around. Essendon kept having players run from behind to create space and receive the ball. Critically, they also receive the ball while on the move.

In contrast we were like statues. Kicking to static targets, not attacking the contest, just waiting for the ball to come to us. That is always evident when we play badly.

The delivery into the forward line? Well, I just don't know what the players further up the ground are supposed to do when not one forward is moving. No-one is presenting. No-one is leading. You don't need to be particularly tall if you are 2 metres ahead of your opponent. When Richmond play badly, the forward line looks like a bunch of scarecrows, just standing around. It is so easy to block up a forward line which is static, we made it very easy for Essendon to do this. Then there are the kicks direct to an opposition player, they are unforgivable but all too common when we have a bad game.

When we play like this it looks like we don't have a game plan. Where was the run down the ground handpassing to each other and creating space? Didn't see that at all tonight.

Very disappointing game, Essendon were not particularly good but they were good enough to hang in there and grab the win at the end. We should have had the game won a lot earlier, there is no excuse for that loss, it should not have been within a kick.

I don't know what is wrong, a lack of confidence, too slow, too old, who knows. But the inconsistency and off games like tonight just kill us.

DS
Split team. One half of oldies who have done enough and have home, family, work in mind and the other half all the young ones who have more hunger and enthusiasm but not much experience. I can't forgive Jack for that diabolical error.

I just dont think the HUNGER is there anymore from the Coach down to the leaders on the ground. Words are easy....actions speak louder.

We lost that game because of very poor Leadership on and off the field.
