Season 2024 - Feeling it? or Not Feeling it?

Our best team is still going to be pretty good right now ... if it gets out on the park consistently.

I think we've burnt so many close games we've forgotten how tight the comp is.

3 or 4 years from now we will probably be in some more serious pain.
Need a bunch of young A grade midfielders and at least one forward which I don't see on the list right now. And then need mature bodies on them.

We'd need a few to level up multiple times.

Dusty Cotchin Delidio Riewoldt evolved to lose Delidio and get Prestia and Lynch.

15 premiership players on the list + Hopper + Taranto + Gibcus + McAuliffe + Tresize + Young.

If the desire is there, we'll be in it up to our eyeballs this year.
The "flag winner' accolade is getting a bit stale The flag was 4 years ago. 2023 We were horrible all over. I can see half a dozen flag winners out of the 22. I agree we have talented youth, and new coaches.

A small improvement across the team should get us more wins than last year. Our midfield mix not right.

Lynch and KPF 2 should be an improvement.

Like last year, if we have some injury luck and buy-in we make the finals. This is another 'Last-Dance' scenario for Lynch, Dusty, Prestia, and Grimes. Fingers firmly crossed.

If it falls apart, we probably go full rebuild in 2025.

Bring it on, FFS. Looking forward to see how we go under the new gaffer. Superhunks need games. Free hit. Let's go.

I know it' sounds crazy but for me beating the Gold Coast is non negotiable its our ALAMO in the season opener.

Its a statement game beating them after the AFLs contrived Bulls hit set up.

If the Tigers can grab the points against all odds (and against the umps), I doubt I will care much about what happens the following week.

Beating the AFL love child and pissing on Hardwicks parade is up there for me with beating Collingwood.
1000% Craigy boy…not sure why, but the GC *smile* me off and now with Dimma there they can get *smile*. He will always be a Richmond great when retired and at reunions, but for now he can *smile* off as he is the enemy.

No excitement at all.
Nothing to look forward too.
The recruitment dept have left us in no man's land again.
We shouldve had 2 or 3 kids replacing the likes of Cotchin Riewoldt Lambert Prestia.
The drafting of Coleman Jones and Higgins and trading away our 1st rounder in 2020 have set us back.

There's a lot of negativity on our youth here.
The form they've shown has been under a different Coach in Dimma, who (evidently) did not have much interest in giving players a run. How often were people beating their heads with selections in 2022-2023?

I'm far more optimistic on a few of our young players, we've just been so slow to clean out the relics. If we could have been a bit more brutal with the poor form of our older group we'd have a much better idea of where our young players actually fit.
We couldn't clear out the old guys because we had no one to replace them. There still isn't. Most of the kids we have given a run in the team have struggled, and it's understandable, they're lower picks and have less natural ability. I like this batch of kids but there's no Dusty, Rance, Cotchin or Reiwoldt amongst them. There just aren't many champions hiding in the picks we've had in the past 11 or 12 years.

Meh, it's not a recruitment problem, it's a draft picks problem. You expect them to pull out the next Prestia, Cotchin and Reiwoldt with picks in the 20's and 30's?

Meanwhile Beavis is getting handfed Japanese grapes and Beluga caviar up on the gold coast.

Ita probably going to be a tough year for us but at least we have a new direction. No more of this chaos stuff.

Haha gee wiz

I'm liking the way some of our posters have reacted to hearing from Yze

speeches during the preseason come to nothing when 4 points are on the line week after week

and that brutal KPI .... the ladder

lots of interest in our young crew and a revitalised Dusty

LOL that interest might be beaten out of me by round 3 or 4 but until then

Sorry you feel that way Zips

For me I am excited to see the kids and their development over 2024. Don't really care about ladder position just that some or most of the kids show progression.

Agree Coleman Jones and Higgins didn't work. Trading out Coleman Jones led in part to getting Taranto, which has worked.

We were last in the queue for a first round draft pick in 2020 and this was further diluted by early academy and father-sons. Traded out and into the 21 draft to be part of the 2021 5 in top 30 trades

Were you see wastelands and tumbleweeds I see green shoots. We will know more at the end of this year

Rance was a spud for multiple years, Cotchin wasn't exactly amazing until he completely changed his game.

You're right, but I'd like to see more of Bauer, Mcauliffe (who I reckon will be a star), Tresize, Gibcus, Brown. Sonsie may yet hit the potential we thought he had, Cumberland might grow up and learn some work ethic to go with his talent. Samson Ryan has a couple years of growth and huge potential upside.

I'm obviously far more bullish, but I think our issues have lied more with our development coaches than players. Look back on who left during our lead up to premiership era. Not sure we ever really replaced the likes of Choco.

From 21-24 our needs to progress have been clear - we need our best players Martin, Prestia and Lynch fresh and sound after the byes. As each year passed it became less likely that would be the case. And here we are in 24.

Prestia is very unlikely. If we coddle Martin he may be right and Lynch may return to form. It's not out of the question that Taranto, Hopper and say Dow give us a high functioning midfield. More so if Prestia can manage some cameos, after the byes. And Rioli may give us something there.

If the rest of our list is fresh and sound we will accidentally turn up the guts of a side. But the midfield is a weakness as it stands. I'm not all doom by any means about this year. There's plenty to watch. Our reserves should be very strong and that is a good foundation for the future.

Meanwhile there is nothing around. Another winnable flag for any lucky mongrel with half a side sound and fresh.

Let's be honest drafting the next Cotchin or Riewoldt is very unlikely you'll be happy to get a player with half there quality.

Fact is noone knows.

2-3 years ago we were laughing at Collingwood and they stitched together a premiership side. Maybe we will do the same, maybe we won't but in the end it will be decided by how good our kids are and who we draft and trade for. Collingwood got a gun coach, maybe we have one now?

The glass is half full to me until it isn't and to you it is the other way around. Fair enough because neither of us knows.

I am excited to see how our kids develop this year.
