Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

Dusty puts out the welcome mat for Hopper at Tigerland

The Age - Oct 12th,

Richmond recruit Jacob Hopper has been given a tour of Tigerland by superstar teammate Dustin Martin as part of his welcome to the club, with the 25-year-old midfielder joining on a seven-year contract.
Hopper was traded from Greater Western Sydney along with picks 53 and 63 in exchange for picks 31 and a future first-round pick, and he said the deal made him feel as though he had been drafted all over again.

“It was huge to get the call yesterday, just super pumped, feel like I’ve almost been drafted again, got those same kind of exciting feelings and just can’t wait to get started again,” Hopper said at Punt Rd on Wednesday.
“Dusty’s been brilliant, he was very good when I had my walkthrough ... I haven’t really spoken much to Dusty, so it was great to just hear from him.”

The former GWS player will be joining the powerhouse club with fellow ex-Giant Tim Taranto, with the pair likely to play the midfield together, and Hopper said the prospect made the trade even better.
“I think the opportunity to keep playing footy with Tim is massively appealing. I’ve loved playing footy with him, and we’ve built a real connection,” he said.

Hopper is contracted until 2029 and said he “always” wanted to sign a long-term contract with a club.
“I’m incredibly grateful for it, that there’s some serious belief in me, and I’ll back myself in every day of the week as well,” he said.
He had also been in talks with Geelong but had his sights set on becoming a Tiger, and had more time to consider his options this year.
“The year was challenging, not playing much and being injured. So, probably found myself with more time on my hands than usual [to think]. And it was something that was always in the back of my mind as well, to kind of get back closer to home,” he said.

Hopper has spoken with coach Damien Hardwick, describing the discussions as “awesome”. The midfielder began his AFL career at GWS after being drafted in 2015, and is looking forward to the change of a larger fan base.
“It’s been a great privilege to build and to contribute to growing a club in western Sydney ... I’ve had some games against the Tiger Army so to be on the other end of that is going to be pretty cool.”

What, the same Dustin Martin that was said to be disenfranchised & looking to get out as purported by sections of the media & certain posters on here ??

Just watched his press conference.
There's no chance by the sounds of it Geelong were ever a chance.
They must've given him the sand and lifestyle pitch where we had dusty the host telling about the roar he will hear at G.
Not sure Geelong's plan to get him worked and I'm convinced they lowed ball him.
5yrs at 600k or 6ys at 550k.

Agree. Seems very similar to Collingwood and lynch.

I reckon when he toured Geelong and met Stagerfield, Cameron and Grienmiers he quickly realised that they have an All Dickheads Policy

Very pleased that Hopper is now a Tiger.
All things going well, he should prove to be an astute addition to the team.
Looks like he could be a ripper player for RFC.

Playing in front of Tiger fans will be 'a shock to the system'. Ha ha. Yep.

Ha. Jack Graham giving him that look.
Don't you dare take my spot!

I reckon Hops and TT will complement Fridge. Fridge is no good at winning the clearance. He is good at the up and down running and defensive stuff. This means he could win some outside ball off them as well as helping them win possession with his defensive work.

I was in two minds at letting fridge walk but now I think he completes the midfield.

Prestia, TT, Hops and Graham are our main mid rotation. Dow and RCD as back-up.

Cotch and Sonsie to interchange (perhaps even in games, given Cotch is coming to the end)

Bolton, Martin, Short and even MRJ to rotate through as needed / forward.

I would even chuck Marlion in midfield in pre season to see what he can add and have Ralphsmith/Banks on his wing.

Excuse me while I find a tissue

Hopper sounds like a very intelligent bloke,
It wouldn't have taken long for him to work that Geelong are dkheads

Lloyd has been silent on us.
He is in shock.
Any call about us was brushed aside onto the next call.
Very little mention of our set up next year, our best mix etc...absolutely zero.
They were very joyful when news broke Hopper was going to Geelong 3 weeks ago and good Hopper is as a inside midfielder but as soon we get him.
Silence
To busy drooling over their darlings down the highway & how Port are on track... to lose another home prelim.

It happened again last night on fox when they went over each clubs trade period.
Without any bias, I've had non stop messages since mid Tuesday and basically my messages have been 'how good are we going to be'
But last night, the usual talkative David J King muted himself when it came time to speak about Richmond's 2022 Draft Haul.
But he was very vocal on Geelongs & Brisbane's haul. All of a sudden the inclusions of the 5th best defender & GIO retirement plan moving to Brisbane, he has them as favourite for the flag. He just brushed over the small issue that they almost concede 1000 points a game.
The Port love is extraordinary, they have lost nearly ever pick in this year's draft and next year and brought in a 17 yr with a chip on his shoulder and a bloke that struggles to get fit enough.
I feel sorry for both boys, but i'm shocked with the reporting of Taranto. Apparently he is a shocking kick, he isn't as good & he stinks too.
These issues weren't a concern when Essendon and Collingwood were talking to him, but as soon he said the devils word, RICHMOND, he instantly became a dud.
That's one thing the boys will need to get used to, they need to sit down and a have a chat with Prestia.
Because Prestia is in the top 5 best midfielders in the comp but the media don't think so, even with those 3 shinny medals around his neck.
The success of Caddy, Lynch, Nakas & Prestia is the envy of soooo many kids at other clubs, we will be a destination club for a very long time.
